Simple Ways To Make Your Children’s Bedrooms Extra Cosy

This is a collaborative post

Whether you’ve just moved to a new home, or you are redecorating your old one, focusing on making your children’s bedrooms extra cosy and inviting is a wonderful way to help them feel secure, content, and happy. Whether they are just starting to crawl, or almost ready to start school, your little ones will be sure to appreciate your desire to make a cosy and engaging space for them to play and sleep in.

Decorating On A Budget

You may think that decorating rooms during a cost of living crisis will be a tall order, but with a little creativity and resourcefulness, it doesn’t have to be tricky. Transforming your children’s rooms into warm and snuggly havens can cost as much or as little as you like. There are plenty of budget-friendly ways to add the ‘cosy’ factor that will make all the difference as winter approaches.

The important thing is to make sure you designate a certain amount of money and don’t spend any more than that. You can also cut costs by shopping for furnishings and accessories in charity shops or using second-hand sites such as Preloved, Gumtree, and Facebook marketplace.

Make Sure Their Rooms Are Warm And Dry

Before you actually start decorating, it’s a good idea to make sure your children’s rooms are cosy from a structural point of view. Check for any patches of damp or mould that you may have missed, and make sure their radiators work efficiently. If you do have any problems, or if you need to install new more effective radiators, you don’t need to search for ‘electricians near me’ on Google – you can simply try this tool and gain instant access to all of the reputable and experienced electricians in your area.

Buy Them Child-Size Furnishings

There are few things cuter than toddler furniture, and these days there are so many miniature furniture options for you to choose from, so you can pick the pieces that will match your chosen décor.

From plain wooden tables and chairs to stunning ‘princess-style’ carriage beds or sturdy plastic furniture sets in an array of bold primary colours, the choices are endless.

Involve your children in the decision-making, and let them choose the furniture that they love the best. Just remember – it’s probably a good idea to opt for the cheaper and more robust pieces, which can be easily cleaned of sticky fingerprints and spilt poster paints.

Speaking of paint, if you buy plain toddler furniture, you can decorate it yourself using non-toxic VOC-free paints. To make the experience even more rewarding, ask your kids to help decorate their new furnishings. Hand them a paintbrush or some gorgeous decals, and they can customise their furniture just the way they want it.

Introduce Softness And Texture

The easiest way to make your kids’ rooms extra cosy is by introducing a range of super-soft items, such as cushions, stuffed toys, throws, and fluffy rugs to lay over hard floors. Young children really appreciate the softness and different textures, as it makes them feel pampered and safe, as well as provide an enjoyable backdrop for play.

Bean bags are also a great idea, particularly if you have a reading corner in your children’s rooms. They can choose a book from the shelf and snuggle down on the bean bag for a reading session whenever they feel like escaping into a story.

Just be aware that if you have toddlers, you may need to be careful about the types of stuffed toys and accessories that you use to add softness and an array of textures. It’s best to avoid toys with sewn-on eyes and noses and sequinned cushions, as these can potentially be pulled off and swallowed.

Create A Special Play Area

Kids love to use their bedrooms for playing in as well as sleeping, so to make their rooms even more appealing, arrange a dedicated ‘play zone’ in one part of the room. You can achieve this by laying down a play mat or one of those aforementioned fluffy rugs and lining it with their favourite toys. You may also wish to add a toy box so they easily put their things away when they have finished playing with them. It’s a good idea to start teaching your little ones to take responsibility for their rooms and possessions as early as possible to save them from having to tidy up a mess day after day.

Use Colour And Lighting For Added Warmth

Introducing carefully chosen colours and strategically placed lighting can have a magical effect on your children’s rooms, effortlessly transforming them into cosy sanctuaries. Opt for light, mood-enhancing hues such as yellow, orange, baby blue, and pale green or purple, so the room feels like a soothing place to sleep as well as a fun place to play in.

For kids who are afraid of monsters under the bed, you can also buy a couple of super-cheap and energy-efficient night lights which only activate when it gets dark. These lights shed a gentle glow which is reassuring but not intrusive, so your little ones can sleep peacefully in their new cosy quarters – as snug as the proverbial bug. Alternatively. we love the comforting nightlight on the yoto player, which can be displayed in a range of different colours – with different shades to show day and night. The comforting light, coupled with their favourite yoto cards before bed, can help them settle down to sleep in no time at all.
