AD – Yoto Headphones previously gifted for review
Did you receive a Yoto player or Yoto Mini for Christmas? Are you now wondering whether to invest in the Yoto Headphones? Checking out the wide range of Yoto Card Cases and Yoto accessories? Wondering how to store your Yoto cards or the best yoto cards for every age group? Fear not – Real Mum Reviews have got you covered.
It’s no secret that we are HUGE Yoto fans in this household. Despite being a fairly new Yoto convert (having previously had the Tonies Toniebox) we are now well and truly hooked. As a family we now have a Yoto Player, Yoto Mini player and a huge selection of Yoto cards. We’ve even dabbled in Make Your Own cards. I have to admit – it’s really quite addictive.

Immersive Yoto Experience on the go
One of the biggest benefits of the Yoto Mini Player in particular is its portable nature. The small size of the Yoto Mini makes it ideal for travel or long journeys in the car. As a result, you’re probably going to want to invest in some decent headphones that allow your child to switch off and relax whilst listening to the Yoto card, podcast or audio card of their choice. If you’re not sure whether to invest in the headphones – here’s what you need to know.
Can you use normal headphones with the Yoto Mini / Yoto Player?
First up, its worth mentioning that you can use any headphones that have a headphone jack with the Yoto Mini and Yoto Player, so it’s by no means essential that you buy the Yoto Headphones. That said, there are some real advantages to having the compatible Yoto Headphones, particularly if you have siblings that will be sharing a device. The Yoto Headphones are also made specifically for kids. They offer significant peace of mind that they are going to be comfortable and safe for your child.
Cons of using other headphones:
It’s fair to say we’ve been through our fair share of other headphones with the kids. Time and time again we’ve experienced the same problems:
- The headband cracks, becomes too loose from my daughter stretching it, continually slips off whilst using it or becomes uncomfortable.
- The cable disconnects from the audio jack or they simply stop working.
- The sound is too loud; meaning we can still hear every single word and being a risk to my daughter’s hearing.
We were sent a pair of Yoto Headphones with our Yoto Mini Player as part of a review. Whilst we weren’t asked to write a separate review on these, we thought it would be helpful to get an honest opinion!
What is unique about the Yoto Headphones?
Children centered
First up, the Yoto Headphones are designed specifically for children’s ears. Everything from the sizing to the comfortable padding has been created with children in mind.
Volume limiting
According to audiologists, there are some real dangers for children if they are exposed to significant audio volumes for a sustained amount of time. At its worst, headphones that are too loud can even lead to hearing loss. The Yoto headphones also come with built in volume limiting to ensure the audio is at a safe for small ears. This is great for peace of mind. My daughter has a tendency to hike up the volume really loud on regular headphones.
Robust and hardwearing
The braided cable on the Yoto Headphones is really thick and strong. Whilst they are obviously wired headphones (not wireless), the cable can withstand some of the pressures that young children can inevitably put them through. It’s also a long cable too (measuring 1.5 metres). This means they don’t have to sit directly next to the Yoto Player whilst listening or be confined to the spot.
Adjustable sizing
I have two children 6 and 9 and the headphones easily fit them both. They also have significant padding on both the headband and the ears, meaning they stay comfortable (and non sweaty!) even for the longest of car trips down to Cornwall.
Daisy chain feature
If you have two children who wish to listen to the same Yoto Card whilst travelling, the daisy chain feature is a real positive. This allows one set of headphones to connect to the other, and the audio to be shared from one Yoto player into both sets of headphones. This can be a real game changer for travel. Whilst we haven’t tried this yet, we are definitely going to invest in a second pair of Yoto Headphones before our summer holidays.

Where can I buy Yoto Headphones?
The best place to buy the headphones is direct from Yoto. This way you will also earn 5 tokens for every £1 you spend in the store. These tokens can be built up to claim either free delivery or discounts off future purchases. They are incredibly popular so do occasionally go out of stock. Don’t worry – they come back fairly regularly, so you wont have too long to wait. They have an RRP of £24.99.
How to storing your headphones
Yoto headphones can be tucked in to themselves, and come with a cloth bag that makes them really easy to store. That said, our preference is to use the hard shelled Yoto Storage Case. This comes with plenty of space for headphones, your Yoto Mini Player, cables / charger and a selection of your child’s favourite Yoto cards – curl up into the hard shell case to keep them secure.
Are the Yoto Headphones worth the money?
The Yoto Headphones retail at £24.99 and I think that’s great value for money. We’ve had cheaper headphones in the past, but as mentioned above, they nearly always break, slip, stop working or are simply so loud that I have to continually ask the girls to turn them down. They have been a big hit with the girls in that they are super comfortable (Neve’s words not mine!) – she doesn’t fiddle with them once off, but instead heads off into her own little headspace bubble – whether she’s listening to The Enchanted Wood or her favourite Elmer Collection. We wish they did more colours and a wireless pair would also be great, but overall not much to fault on these
Pros of the Yoto Headphones
- Tailored specifically for kids
- Comfortable and fully adjustable so can switch sizes between kids
- Volume limiting for peace of mind and safety
- Daisy chain feature allows siblings to share one Yoto player with two headphone sets.
- Long cable length allows my daughter to potter around and play with her toys whilst listening. The robust cord can also handle a bit of rough handling.
Cons of the Yoto Headphones
- Obviously Yoto have a strong orange theme throughout their branding and whilst we love the headphones, we do wish that they came in a choice of colour schemes, as they offer with the adventure jackets and mini adventure jackets. I would love to see the Headphones offered in other shades such as the Rain Cloud (Dark Grey) and Blue Bird (Sky Blue) shades.
- There are times when we would love to see Bluetooth / wireless headphones but as we mostly use the Yoto during travel or in the car, this really wasn’t a big issue for us.
