8 Jobs You Can Do Around Your Family

This is a collaborative post

Trying to build a balance between work and family life can be difficult for parents. Perhaps you’re constantly feeling guilty because you can’t give both the attention they deserve. If you’re striving to create balance in your life, you may be thinking about more flexible jobs.

Fortunately, there are many jobs you can do from home that will allow you to work around the needs of your family. Working for yourself gives you the flexibility to be free when your family needs you the most. Take a look at some of the most flexible jobs for parents.

Customer Service Advisor

For many companies, hiring remote customer service assistants lowers their business costs. They don’t have to pay for office space so it makes a lot of sense. Being a customer service advisor at home will mean being available to answer your phone or reply to customer emails.

You’ll need good communication skills and good knowledge of using a computer to answer emails. You’ll also need to demonstrate that you can work on your own initiative and you’re quick to solve problems.

Virtual Assistant

Are you good at organization? Virtual assistants are often wanted by business owners to schedule their days, answer phone calls, and reply to emails. Similar to customer service this role requires communication skills but it’s often a more complicated role.

You’ll need to be good at time management and you’ll need to be detail oriented. The job will require you to be self-motivated. You may be responsible for helping one person or an entire team.

Focus Groups

There are many websites where you can earn money just by answering surveys in your own time. Although you won’t earn much, you can earn enough to make a difference to your income. When you’ve completed surveys, you may be invited to or come across focus groups.

The best online focus groups can be time consuming but they do pay well. Being part of a focus group will entail answering questions that result in specific research.

Social Media Manager

Managing social media can be a full time job and many business owners don’t have time for it. It can be easier for business owners to pass the job onto someone else so they can concentrate on other aspects of the business. As a social media manager, you’ll be responsible for managing all social media accounts by creating regular posts.

You’ll also need to monitor comments and messages, replying to both when it’s required. It will also be important to monitor interaction with posts so you can keep track of what customers like and what they don’t.

Copywriter

The role of copywriter can be broad so it’s not a job you’ll easily get bored in. If you enjoy writing and communication, a copywriter could be a great fit for you. You may write blogs and articles for already established blogs and websites.

Or you may be asked to create marketing content or emails for businesses. It could also range from product descriptions to website pages.

Bookkeeper

Many companies like to outsource bookkeeping roles. It’s important for business owners to hire professional bookkeepers for their finances but they don’t necessarily need one around all the time. Hiring a freelance bookkeeper often works best.

As a bookkeeper, you may be asked to analyze company financial data and create reports. You’ll need to process invoices, deposits, payroll, and more. For this job you’ll require a finance degree.

Transcriptionist

A transcriptionist is valuable for many different businesses. The job involves listening to a recording of a meeting or any verbal recording and transcribing it into a written document. It can help if you are familiar with jargon and abbreviations to help you better understand what is being said.

You’ll need to have an excellent grasp of the language being spoken and excellent typing ability to ensure you can create the documents as quickly and professionally as you can.

E-commerce Business

An e-commerce business is using a website to sell products to a target audience. Whether you sell products you haven’t made or you sell unique products you have made, e-commerce is a great way to get started in business. It also allows you to start off small and increase as you have the capacity.

It’s something you can run entirely from your home, on your own terms, while making money around your family commitments.
