One of the biggest worries from parents buying their child a Yoto Mini or Yoto Player for a gift is Yoto Card storage – specifically, how to store the Yoto cards and ensure they don’t get lost. The Yoto cards are relatively small in size, measuring 15.5 x 10.1 x 1.3cm (approximately the same size as a credit card). As such, they do have the potential to get lost quite easily, slipping down the side of your child’s cabin bed, falling behind a chest of drawers or in our house, simply becoming hidden amongst the mess.

How to store your Yoto Cards

With the cards costing a fair bit more than your average book, you’re going to want to make sure your child looks after them. Whether you’re after Yoto Card storage for travel, Yoto card storage for at home, or even visual Yoto Card storage where your child can easily pick their next story, we’ve investigated the best Yoto storage options you can buy today.

What are Yoto Cards?

Yoto story cards are small credit-card sized cards which can be inserted into the top of a Yoto Mini or Yoto Player device. There is a huge collection of Yoto Cards to choose from ranging from traditional audio books and classic tales to music, educational fun and even sleep sounds and meditations. With intuitive controls, children can operate the Yoto themselves, easily adjusting the volume or changing chapters as required. If you don’t have a Yoto Mini or Yoto Player yet, you may want to read our full Yoto Mini Review first which includes a long list of responses to Yoto FAQs.

Official Yoto Storage Options

The most obvious place to shop for Yoto card storage options is Yoto itself – and with good reason. Their products are made specifically for the Yoto Mini / Yoto Player or Yoto card storage, so you don’t need to worry about double checking measurements or getting that perfectly secure fit. Here are the options in their selection

1. Best for Travel: Yoto Mini Travel Case

The most obvious choice for Yoto Card Storage is the hard shelled Yoto Mini Travel Case which is ideal for those who wish to make the most of the Yoto Mini’s portable nature. This tough and durable case has space for the Yoto Mini Player, up to 30 Yoto Cards of their choice and headphones. There’s even a handy elastic loop for keeping the charger cable (or headphone cable) neat and tidy in the case.

With a fully adjustable strap, you can easily adjust the strap to suit your child’s age / height, making it simple to wear across the body – handy when walking or visiting family and friends.

Yoto Card Storage

Pros of the Yoto Mini Travel Case

  • Hard outer shell keeps your Yoto Mini Player safe and fully protected
  • Decent Yoto Card storage capacity, with space for up to 30 cards.
  • No need to remove the Yoto Mini Player Adventure Jacket before packing away.
  • Elastic loops and indents to the interior keep everything secure, neat and tidy.
  • Cable hole allows children to listen to the Yoto Mini Player whilst its protected in the case, simply poking the headphones cable through the case before zipping it back up and taking it on their adventures.

Cons of the Yoto Mini Travel Case

  • Whilst it’s the Yoto brand colours, we’re personally not a big fan of the orange case colour and would love to see the Yoto Mini Travel Case available in the same variety of shades as the Adventure Jackets.
  • The addition of space for the headphones do make the Yoto Mini Travel Case on the large side (measuring 9.53 x 7.76 x 3.82 inches) so there are certainly smaller (or more compact) storage options for your Yoto Cards.

2. Best for home: Yoto Card Case

More suited to Yoto Card Storage at home, the Yoto Card Case is a smaller, more discreet Yoto storage option. It also offers a great storage capacity, with the ability to hold up to 60 Yoto cards in one neat, zip up case.

Zip open the soft but protective folder to reveal a ring binder with 8 clear plastic sheets inside. Each sheet has space for eight Yoto Cards, with specially angled slots that makes cards really simple to get in and out, even if your younger child is determined to do it by themselves.

Unlike the larger Yoto Mini Storage Case, the Yoto Card Case comes in a choice of three colours – Christmas Tree Green, Clementine Punch, and Stocking Grey. We love the grey one, but with young children this may not maintain its clean appearance for long!

Yoto Card Storage (Yoto Card Case)

Pros of the Yoto Card Case

  • Choice of three colours
  • Smaller size (24.5 x 17.5 x 3.5 cm) than the Yoto Mini Travel Case
  • Significant capacity (stores up to 60 Yoto Cards)
  • Angled slots are easier for children to use than other business card / credit card holders
  • Great for flicking through your Yoto Collection when deciding what to listen to next. Children love selecting visually based on book covers and this format really supports that.

Cons of the Yoto Card Case

  • Price tag is relatively high when compared to non branded card holders
  • Again, would love to see a wider range of colours, although the three shades is an improvement of the orange only in the Yoto Mini Travel Case.

3. Best for travelling light: Yoto Card Pouch

If you’re travelling overnight, on public transport or visiting family and don’t want to bring your entire Yoto Collection, these smaller Yoto Card Pouches are a quick and convenient way to store a selection of Yoto Cards. Holding up to 20 Yoto cards, these small (5.5 x 10.1 x 1.3cm) but perfectly formed card pouches can easily fit into most coat pockets. With a velcro fastening with open sides, you can still maintain some (limited) visibility of the cards nestled inside.

Yoto Card Storage

Pros of the Yoto Card Pouch

  • Smaller sized Yoto Card storage – ideal for commuting.
  • Fits into most coat pockets
  • Easily accessible even for younger users
  • Soft yet protective casing

Cons of the Yoto Card Pouch

  • Not as visually simple to select your cards – may find your child pulls them all out to select, which could risk a card getting dropped or accidentally discarded.
  • Only one colour choice. *Yoto please bring out more colours!*

Best Visual Yoto Card Storage

If you have an original Yoto Player or are using your Yoto player as a more permanent fixture at home, you may want a form of Yoto card storage that is not only practical but aesthetically pleasing too. We’ve seen some really great visual card storage options that are popular amongst the Yoto Community. These ‘display’ style Yoto card storage options provide your child with full visibility of their entire collection, making picking out a bedtime story an absolute breeze.

1. Boon Bottle Drying Rack

For really unique Yoto card storage, we absolutely love the idea of using the Boon Bottle Drying Rack. Not only does it look like an adorable little field of grass, but the fine blades of the ‘lawn’ make the ideal support, allowing your child to simply slot their cards in amongst the grass. A really fun and playful way for your child to store their Yoto Cards next to their bed.

The Boom Bottle Drying rack is available in a choice of colours, from the bright and colourful green to a more sylish grey, ideal for your child’s nursery setting.

Pros of the Boon Bottle Drying Rack

  • Just look at it – you can’t get much more adorable than that!
  • Choice of colours
  • Allows children to visually select their cards

Cons of the Boon Bottle Drying Rack

  • May be a little style over substance, as cards may slip / fall sideways
  • Open to the elements – doesn’t protect the cards as such

2. Yellow Mountain Imports Playing Card Holder

If you’re looking for a sustainable and ecofriendly way to store your Yoto Cards, these wooden playing card holders are an excellent choice. With ascending heights, children can clearly see the cards in their Yoto Collection (even those on the back rows). The set comes with two, which also makes them an ideal Yoto card storage option for families with more than one child; perhaps siblings that want to keep their favourite Yoto cards next to their bed.

We love how simple yet incredibly effective this option is – so easy for children to organise their Yoto library themselves.

Yoto Card Storage

Pros of the Playing Card Holder

  • Visually pleasing in a modern nursery or bedroom setting
  • Sustainable choice
  • Incredibly simple to use
  • Mantains full visibility of all cards on display
  • Set of two ideal for siblings

Cons of the Playing Card Holder

  • The Amazon write up states they hold 40 cards, but some reviewers found they comfortably held slightly less than this.

Business Card Holder Yoto Card Storage

For those looking for a cheaper alternative to Yoto Card storage, business card holders can be a great choice. Whilst they don’t offer the diagonal slats for easy access and may look a bit plainer, you can save yourself a reasonable amount. Overall, these can be a great alternative if you’re less concerned with the visual presentation and more bothered by practicality and suitable storage.

1. Filofax and Business Card Holder inserts

I may be biased here as a stationery addict, but Filofax’s make a super cute way to protect your Yoto cards (whilst also offering the ability to store other products too thanks to their range of removeable inserts). If you already have a filofax, you can simply buy the Business Card Holder filofax inserts as shown below. If you don’t have a Filofax, they have a range of fun and child friendly designs in a variety of colours and patterns that will be visually appealing to little ones. With a fabric or leather exterior, they also keep your Yoto cards well protected too.

Price £3.25

Pros of Filofax Business Card Holder inserts:

  • If you already have a Filofax you can reuse or repurpose, the inserts are incredibly cheap.
  • Inserts are double sided, so you can fit 6 Yoto cards per sheet. You can easily buy new refills as and when your collection grows, without paying for larger storage from the outset.

Cons of Filofax Business Card Holder inserts:

  • Only six card slots per sheet, so may work out costly for larger Yoto Collections
  • Original Filofax’s can be quite expensive (particularly the leather)

Best Yoto Card Storage for large Yoto collections

If your Yoto Card holder is growing by the day, or you have joined the Yoto Club and expect to be regularly adding new Yoto Cards to your library, you may find that the smaller card storage options are no longer fit for purpose. Here are some larger Yoto card storage options, for even the largest of collections.

1. Joyhood Trading Card Holder

With an affordable price tag and the ability to hold up to a whopping 400 cards, this hard shell case was originally sold for trading cards such as Pokemon, but make a great alternative for Yoto Storage too. With a velcro divider and an elastic pouch they are a great option for storing a high volume of cards, but offer less simple selection than some of the more visual or ‘page turner’ style storage.

Pros of the JoyHood Trading Card Holder

  • Available in a choice of colours
  • Hard / waterproof shell
  • Significant storage capacity

Cons of the JoyHood Trading Card Holder

  • Less visually easy for child to selec their favourite card
  • Case states 400 cards, however trading cards are slightly thinner so the reality with Yoto Cards may be slightly less.

2. VaultX Binder

Holding up to 360 cards, this A4 size pocket binder is a lovely way to flick through your Yoto Collection before bed, With 9 pockets per page, and 20 pages, it still lies relatively flat, so can easily be stashed onto a bookshelf or in a drawer without taking up significant space. It comes in a choice of colours including black, yellow, red, blue, white and green, you can easily find a colour to suit your child’s personality.

Pros of the VaultX Binder

  • Visual way to flick through cards before bed
  • Choice of bright and engaging colours
  • Whilst large in size and storage capacity, it lies relatively flat
  • Affordable option for growing collections

Cons of the VaultX Binder

  • Its large size means it feels a little like flicking through to pick your kareoke song rather than a handy card storage
  • It’s less suitable for travel

However you choose to store your Yoto Cards, we hope you find these suggestions helpful!
