While at the time of writing, there isn’t an official Yoto Advent Calendar, here are our hints and tips for how to make your own. From the best fill your own advent calendars to the best Yoto Christmas cards to pop inside, here’s our step-by-step guide to a MYO Yoto Advent Calendar.
On the run up to Christmas, we’ve seen loads of posts in the Yoto Fans UK facebook group about how to do a Yoto advent calendar. Yoto have loads of winter-themed cards and new Yoto Christmas cards are added regularly. Whether you choose to use cards from the Yoto store or use Make Your Own Yoto cards to create your own festive-themed content, here’s all the inspiration you need for a festive Yoto Advent.
Does Yoto have an advent calendar card?
Officially no, while they do have a Ladybird Advent Stories card, the closest you’re going to get is their new release Winston Delivered Christmas.
This card is about a little mouse called Winston, who discovers a letter to Santa that has gone astray. He sets off on a Very Important Mission, in an attempt to get the letter to Santa before Christmas Day.
With 24 tracks, this is a great story to read on the run-up to Christmas, listening to one chapter each night during Advent. As well as being a beautiful heartwarming story, every purchase includes a PDF with Christmas-themed activities to enjoy during the countdown.
One of our favourites and an awesome addition to the Yoto library.
Ideas for a Fill Your Own Yoto Advent Calendar
If you’re hoping to create your own Yoto advent calendar, getting a reusable fabric or sustainable advent calendar is a great place to start. We’ve highlighted some of our favourite options below. While we have linked to specific products in our guide, there are lots of similar items available on Amazon or independent retailers too – these are purely for inspiration purposes!
The most important part is to check that the gaps are large enough to fit a Yoto card (Yoto cards measure the same size as a credit card), unless you are happy to have them poking out. You may also need to remove them from their outer packaging.

We love these advent gift boxes for counting down for Christmas.
The set includes 25 multi-coloured boxes that look like little festive houses, and children will love opening the roof of a new house each day to reveal a Yoto card (and maybe a chocolate too!) hidden inside.

An affordable option, this set includes 24 multi-coloured paper bags, (each measuring 15 x 22 cm) along with 24 numbered stickers and a string, allowing you to hang a chain of bags along the fireplace or hang ready to reveal each morning.
Christmas gift boxes
While you may not want to fork out for a full 24 days, these Santa gift card boxes make an impressive way to gift Yoto Cards, whether that be for Advent or as a Christmas gift,
Each box is sold separately, measuring 12 x 3 x 8 cm/.
Reusable Cotton Gift Bags
Sold in packs of four, these reusable Christmas-themed draw string bags, each set measures 12 x 15 cm – ideal for storing Yoto Cards.
We love the beautiful Christmas-themed characters and red and white string.
What are the best Christmas Yoto Cards for a Yoto advent?
Yoto have LOADs of Christmas content, so you’re pretty much spoiled for choice. If you wanted to have a Yoto card for each day of advent, my advice would be to mix and match the Best Christmas Yoto cards with MYO content. You could even read some festive stories aloud for a personal touch.
Our favourite Christmas cards (as well as Winston’s above) are:
- The Christmasaurus cards (various) by Tom Fletcher
- The Boy Who Slept Through Christmas by Matt Lucas
- Winter Stories by Enid Blyton
