REVIEW – Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

Introducing the Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab…

With a background working in STEM recruitment, I have often felt incredibly frustrated by the lack of young females we saw apply for our graduate vacancies. Out of the 5 years I recruited into Graduate IT Developer roles, I only saw a handful of females apply, despite the position offering an excellent starting salary and a fantastic career path! Despite lots of attempts to change the perception, STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) can still very much be seen as a male career path, and this really has to change! I always try to reinforce the message with the girls that they can grow up to be whatever they want to be. As a result, I am always keen on toys that encourage an interest and understanding of these subjects by both boys and girls, so when I heard that Little Tikes were launching a new range of STEM toys I was very excited!

About Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

The Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab is the ultimate interactive STEM lab designed for pre-schoolers and above (3+). Providing hours of educational fun, the Stem Jr Wonderlab comes with 20+ hands on experiments that children can create using the lab accessories provided and household items such as baking soda and food colouring.

The lab comes with over 20 different lab accessories including a ball maze (with interchangeable pieces), test tubes, stirring spoons, eye droppers and the lab googles; the latter of which are the ideal way to get your mini scientist’s into character.

The Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab also makes over 40 different playful sounds and phrases during game play as the experiments are completed.

Assembly of the Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

The Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab does require some initial assembly, but for older children, it is actually quite a fun engineering activity in it’s own right, so I actively encouraged Erin to help me as we pieced it all together, looking at the instructions and passing me the right pieces as I needed them. The instructions are very straightforward to follow, and with the exception of a screwdriver required to pop the batteries into their compartment, and secure the leg pieces into place, the rest involved simply clicking items in to each other.

First Impressions

Our first impressions of the Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab were very positive, it stands at a great height for children to work at, and I particularly liked the fact that everything could be stored neatly away when not in use using the tray underneath to hold all the accessories. There was even a little hook on the right hand side to hang up the experiment cards when not being used.

Erin immediately wanted to play with the lab, before she had even grasped that there were specific experiments as such, and immediately set to work securing some of the ball maze on to the panels, she also liked popping the balls into the large funnel flask and stirring them with a little spoon (simple things!).

Key Features

Some of the key features to highlight on the STEM Jr Wonderlab include:

Experiment cards – there are over 20 different experiment cards included with the set to inspire little minds, with a range of science, maths, engineering and technology subject matters. The cards can be easily flicked through, and have clear illustrative instructions so that children can see from the outset what will be required. Some of the experiments only require the accessories from the Wonderlab itself, where as others need some additional household items such as baking powder, food colouring or saline solution, but nothing that would be particularly challenging to get hold of.

When your child has selected which experiment they want to do first, they can unclip it from the experiment file and hang it from the two clips in the centre of the lab so that they can clearly see the instructions they are following at all times.

Erin’s favourites

With so many experiments to try out, we have only really scratched the surface with the range of options that the Wonderlab can bring, however there are a few clear winners with Erin, who tends to favour the Engineering and Technology type experiments the most.

The Circuit Centre has been a big hit, and one that she goes back to regularly. Erin has really enjoyed learning about conductivity, and how different household items can conduct energy and as such complete the circuit and cause the light to come on. It was interesting to see that she started to recognise which items were likely to work and which ones weren’t, and even that you could pop the two clips together to close the circuit without any extra items at all.

The ball drop track was also a big hit, with the child arranging the different pieces of track in a way that will allow the balls to drop from the top right to the bottom. With up to 16 different successful combinations to mix and match, it was lovely to watch Erin figure this out and her emotions change from anticipation to frustration to pride when she finally nailed the right combination of pieces. From a parent’s perspective, watching her learn that you don’t always get things right first time was also a really valuable life lesson, and I was proud to watch her persistence as she tried to figure out what she needed to change in order for it to work.

Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

We have so much of the Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab still to try. Due to the fact the lab is currently set up at Nanny’s house where she has brand new carpets. we are yet to have fully embraced some of the Scientific experiments, many of which involve baking soda, and as such, may have the potential to be a little messy. That said, the Wonderlab is light weight and easily portable, so this would be an ideal activity to do on the patio outside, where any bubbling over could be done without concern of the mess! There is also a fairly deep purple tray in the centre, so I imagine the majority of overspill could be caught in this, and then the tray easily removed and cleaned without any significant upheaval.

Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab

At £79.99, The Little Tikes STEM Jr Wonderlab is a high price point item, however in terms of the range of interactive and educational play you get for your money, I feel that this is reasonable. The set is well built, has lots of accessories and interactive pieces, and even once the recommended experiments are completed, there is plenty of essentials which will allow you to create your own or add more options to your list.

For us, the next experiment on the hitlist is to make Vampire Blood – who wouldn’t want to this close to Halloween? I am looking forward to using the pipettes and measuring jugs with Erin, and we may try and make a bubbling potion too!

If you have your own budding scientist at home, you can learn more about the Little Tikes Wonderlab on the Little Tikes website here.

The Little Tikes Wonderlab is available to purchase from Amazon and retails at £79.99

REVIEW – Little Tikes Tikes Place Play House

REVIEW – Little Tikes Tikes Place Play House

Introducing Little Tikes Tikes Place play house

One of the things that I absolutely love to do at the weekend is watch the girls play together. When we decided to have a second child, one of the first things I thought about was Erin having someone to play with, and I really looked forward to the days where the my two children could sit and engage – laugh together, talk together and share their toys. Sure there would be occasional squabbles, but those precious moments in between where they enjoy each others company would make it all worth it.

Both girls have always had great imaginations, and Erin in particular has always loved acting out little scenes with characters and making up stories in her head. When I saw that Little Tikes had created a play house with 360 degree play – something that both girls could interact with at the same time, it seemed ideal as a gift for Neve’s 2nd birthday. Not only did it come with a little family of characters, but featured some of the girl’s favourite Little Tikes products, just like the ones we have in our garden!

About Tikes Place

Tikes Place is a large interactive play house from Little Tikes packed with lights, sounds and fun activities from every angle, encouraging imaginative and creative play. Ideal for siblings to share, Tikes Place can be played with independently from both sides, meaning that two children can play at the same time without fighting for the houses’ key features.

Tikes Place comes with four family figures (a Mum, Dad, Daughter and Baby) and over 12 accessories, seven of which are mini-versions of your favourite Little Tikes items, including the iconic Cosy Coupe car, sandpit and slide!

With pull out floor sections (a patio and back garden) to extend the play space, and external lights on the one side that really light up, Tikes Place also includes interactive sound elements such as a working doorbell and flushing toilet.

Children will enjoy acting out their creative scenes and bringing their stories to life.  A great gift for ages three and up, Tikes Place retails at X.

Our Review of Little Tikes Tikes Place

The Little Tikes Tikes Place does require some initial assembly, however it is fairly quick and straight forward to piece together, with most of the sections of the house simply clicking into place, with just a couple of parts requiring a small screw to secure the pieces into place.

Little Tikes Tikes Place assembly

The set also comes with two stickers to apply – one a family portrait photograph for on the wall on the landing upstairs, and the second a large rug for at the top of the stairs.

Little Tikes Tikes Place Family Portrait

The house comes with lots of accessories including the Cosy Coupe car, a mini trampoline, a sandpit and slide, as well as a kitchen unit with real opening cupboards, a table and two chairs, and a bath. These are all free standing and can be moved around the house as your child wishes, providing lots of freedom to create scenes of their choice.

The girls were super excited when we put Tikes Place together on the morning of Neve’s birthday, so much so that we didn’t even manage to get them dressed before they set to work in putting it through it’s paces!

Little Tikes Tikes Place - duel sided play

Tikes Place requires 3 AA batteries, which are to power the sounds on the doorbell, flushing toilet and the exterior lights of the property.

First Impressions of Tikes Place

My first impressions of the Little Tikes Tikes Place were really positive. Its a large and sturdy set with 360 degree play, meaning it’s ideal for the girls to share and both play together at the same time. It also has a large handle on the roof meaning it is easily portable and can be moved around and transferred between rooms or packed away quickly and easily when required.

Little Tikes Tikes Place

Tikes Place has two floors to the property, and two sections (the garden and patio) which pull out to expand the floor space, and can then be neatly tucked away underneath when the house is not being used. This is great for when it comes to tidying up, as it means Tikes Place can be placed right next to the wall and out of the way when not in use.

To assist with game play parts of the floor have little noddules sticking up, and these enable children to pop the characters on and hold them in place. Erin was old enough to figure this out, but Neve (who is slightly younger than the sets recommended age) needed a little help with this.

Little Tikes Tikes Place accessories - slide

There are four characters included – a Mum, Dad, Sister and Baby with the 3 larger characters having poseable arms and legs which bend at the knees, meaning they can be moved around and posed into different positions during play. That said, getting them to stay on the little chairs around the table was pretty much impossible, even at my age let alone for little ones!

Little Tikes Tikes Place Trampoline and Sandpit

Little Tikes Tikes Place - staircase

Great for imagination, it’s been fun watching the girls act out little scenes with the characters, including tapping the figures up and down the staircase, popping them in the bathtub, using the toilet (and leaving the seat up – tut tut Daddy!) as well as driving around in their little car. The side of the house has a little ramp for running the car up and down, and Neve enjoyed watching it shoot off when she pushed it down the ramp.

Little Tikes Tikes Place - bath and flushing toilet

Little Tikes Tikes Place - Dinner Time

Neve’s favourite part of Tikes Place is the little swing set, although she does need help getting the baby in and out as this can be a little bit fiddly. The seat flips down so you can pop her in before securing her into place. The swing actually rocks backwards and forwards, which Neve found hilarious.

Little Tikes Tikes Place Baby on the swing

From a parent’s point of view, I think it’s great that the items in the garden are just like the ones we have at home, as they were instantly recognisable to Neve even at a young age.

Little Tikes Tikes Place - Cosy Coupe Car

The only improvement I would suggest is that it would have been great if there had been somewhere to store the accessories so that they didn’t get lost, however presumably this would’ve increased the size of the set. That said, none of the pieces are particularly small, so I don’t see this being a major problem.

Overall the Little Tikes Tikes Place has been a huge hit, and definitely one of Neve’s favourites from her recent birthday. I love that the set is something the girls can interact with together, and although there is occasionally some squabbling about who sits on which side, or who gets to hold the Little Tikes Cosy Coupe next, they have generally played together really nicely. It’s been really lovely to watch.

Little Tikes Build a House Playhouse REVIEW

Little Tikes Build a House Playhouse REVIEW

#AD – gifted for review

Ever since we did our huge garden renovation a few years ago, we have really made the most of our outside space. Easily the favourite part of my entire house, we spend a huge amount of time playing outside in the garden whatever the weather, and with the recent heatwave, we have definitely made the most of the weather.

Our garden is also a bit of a children’s haven and Little Tikes products have become a huge part of that. A firm favourite with both the girls their toys have offered hours of fun, and as such, I am always keen to hear about new additions to their collection.

This Summer we’ve been putting the Little Tikes Build a House playhouse to the test – a playhouse with a difference, this was a really exciting addition to the Little Tikes Playhouse range. Here’s how we got on.

About the Build a House Playhouse

The Little Tikes Build a House is a play house with a difference. Where as most playhouses for children only offer one finished design, the Little Tikes Build a House comes with interchangeable panels and easy-to-use tools so that little ones can be involved in the construction, letting their imagination help create the finished design. Using the completely child friendly mini handheld screwdriver and electric screwdriver included, they can help build, take apart and re-build their house to create endless variations! Build a House is suitable for both indoor and outdoor play.

The Little Tikes Build a House is a colourful bright playhouse with interchangeable panels that requires some initial assembly. Parents build the frame and roof and then the rest is up to the children to customise – with 25+ interchangeable panels and accessories including windows, doors and even a letter box, and chunky screws ideal for little hands, children will loved being involved in bringing their house to life.

The Little Tikes Build a House retails at £199.99 but is currently on sale at just £128, making it an ideal gift for birthdays or Christmas.

Our Little Tikes Build a House Review

I was really excited about road testing the Little Tikes Build a House. On paper, this playhouse seems a little bit different to your standard house, offering something a little different from others on the market. I was keen to see how Erin in particular would enjoy helping create the finished effect. Here’s how we got on!

I have to be honest, when you first open the box of the Little Tikes Build a House, it can be more than a little daunting. There are a LOT of pieces – not only are there the 25 interchangeable panels that the children can help build with and a large bag of chunky screws, there is also lots of other pieces that form the initial frame and roof and a big bag of regular screws ready for the adult assembly element that is required. I had a quick look, before closing the box back up and waiting for Daddy to get home!!

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse unboxing

Those of you who have read previous reviews will know that this isn’t uncommon. Spatial awareness and building things really isn’t my forte, and although he would probably never admit it, Mike actually really enjoys stuff like this. So one Saturday morning we dragged the box out on to the patio and Mike set to work.

I took the girls for a bath to get them out of the way whilst Mike set to work, and a few minutes in, he admitted that it was actually very straight forward and that the instructions were fairly simply to follow. A few of the pieces had become slightly warped in the box, but during fitting he was able to manipulate these back into place so it wasn’t a major problem. Within about 25 minutes he had created the frame of the house including the roof panels and that is where his involved should have ended. I then had to remind Mike that the next part was supposed to be for Erin, but he found it very difficult not to ‘help’!!!

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse assembly of the frame

There are around 25 interchangeable panels included in the box, all of which can be placed in different arrangements to change the look and feel of the house. The screws included for these panels are large and chunky, and Erin was super excited about starting to fit some herself.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse child friendly tools

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Each panel comes with holes, and the screws need to be pushed into the holes prior to fastening to the frame. This did require adult assistance as it was a little tough to push them through, and as such Little Tikes recommend that an adult is supervising to assist with this element of the build.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Erin was then able to pop the panels in where she wished to place them, and used the electric screwdriver to fasten them into place. The screwdriver has a button on top that allows her to change the direction of the spin (righty tighty, lefty Lucy!). The electric screwdriver tended to do the initial securing, and then the handheld screwdriver was useful for tightening them up and ensuring they were secure. From a parents point of view the electric screwdriver was probably more of a gimmick – as it was just as easy (if not easier) to tighten using the handheld screwdriver alone. From the children’s point of view however they absolutely loved having a ‘real’ screwdriver just like Daddy’s.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Mike helped Erin with the initial aesthetic, in particular deciding where to put the door and window pieces, but it was really cute watching Erin help secure them into place, looking really proud as she worked her way around the house with her hand tools.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

Creating the entire Build a House took around an hour in total, during which time Erin’s attention didn’t wane at all. Neve was also keen to be included, with the odd squabble over who was holding the screwdriver, and coming round to ‘help’ with tightening up the pieces Erin had put in place.

The finished house looks great. With the bright orange roof it really stands out in the garden even on a gloomy day, and there is plenty of room inside for both girls to play together. I love the saloon style door and the large window frames, perfect for playing peekaboo – something which Neve likes to do A LOT.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

The doors and window pieces are a little on the flimsy side, so I have needed to encourage Neve to be gentle as she can be a bit heavy handed when she pulls the windows open. She also hasn’t seemed to grasp yet that the hinges on the saloon style door only allow them to open one way, and a few times has tried to push them backwards in order to get in, getting herself in a bit of a pickle – I am sure she will figure this out eventually! 🙂

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse

My girls are 5 and nearly 2, and what’s great about the Little Tikes Build-a-House is that it is perfectly suited to both of them. Now that it is built Neve in particular really enjoys playing inside, peeking out the windows and posting things through the letterbox (normally random items that she has collected from around the garden). Erin loved the construction element, and we have had a few reshuffles since the houses’ creation, with Erin unscrewing panels and swapping them around to create a slightly different look.

In reality I am not sure how many times the house will get moved around once it has been in place for a while but it is great to have the option to mix things up a little bit should the girls wish to do so. That said, it does open the possibility for more items in a similar range. My partner said as a child he would’ve loved something similar with a Castle or Workshop style theme, and felt that this sort of design would encourage more regular use of the swap and change element using the tools included.

Little Tikes Build-a-House playhouse child assembly

Overall. I felt the Little Tikes Build-a-House was a really fun playhouse offering something a little different to others on the market.

Pros & Cons of the Playhouse

Pros:

  • Build-a-House offers the ability to “mix things up” and change the aesthetic of the playhouse once it has been created.
  • Child friendly tools and screws allow children to be involved in the building and creation of the playhouse with an element of “just like Daddy”.
  • Bright colours and attractive design including saloon door, opening windows and a large letter box.
  • Great for siblings of mixed ages to play together, offering something for everyone.
  • Educational element involved whilst children learn about rearranging and fitting the pieces.

Cons:

  • There are a lot of pieces which can be daunting on first opening, and the initial frame does require adult assembly – something you may wish to consider doing the night before if you want to give as a present – as children can be a little impatient!
  • The chunky screws do need to be clicked through the holes prior to children fitting the pieces, and Erin got a little frustrated wanting to do this bit herself too.
  • Some of the panels (in particular the windows and door) are a little on the flimsy side, so I am unsure of how these will weather or perform with heavy handed play!

You can learn more about the Little Tikes Build a House on the Little Tikes website. Build-a-House is currently on offer for £128 as part of their summer sale.

Getting Outdoors with Little Tikes

Getting Outdoors with Little Tikes

The weather has been a little hard to predict in recent months, with the Beast from the East having dumped more than its fair share of snow, ice and rain, leaving me feeling like Spring would never actually arrive. We then got lured into a false sense of security, with lots of sunshine, rising mercury and warmer days galore, before some of the worst storms I have ever seen, dumping on us more rain in an hour in Birmingham than we normally get in a month! The sun has made a reappearance this weekend, but how long for is yet to be established!

I am one of those people for whom cabin fever can set in incredibly quickly if we don’t get outside for at least a little bit every single day. I love nothing more than getting outside with the girls, venturing out into the garden, blowing the cobwebs away and getting some much needed vitamin D, but at times it can feel like quite a challenge, particularly when the weather is so hard to predict.

Little Tikes recently conducted a survey of 2000 parents to learn more about our outside play habits, and the results were pretty shocking! A huge 42% of parents surveyed said that it was too cold to go outside, whereas one in four said that their little ones were too tired to leave the house.

Thanks to Psychologist Emma Kenny, Little Tikes have created some helpful hints and tips to encourage your children to play outside more, largely in the comfort of your own garden, or outside space.

Have fun with them!

Kids absolutely love to spend time with their parents. Whether you create an obstacle course in the garden up and over the slide and around the sandpit, or a simple game of hide and seek, playing together is fantastic for bonding and ensures lots of healthy activity.

In our experience this is definitely true, Erin loves it when we enter her little world of imagination. I absolutely love watching Erin’s creativity come to life, with our playhouse becoming a drive through restaurant, and her riding up in the Cozy Coupe Car to collect her order! 🙂 This is also possibly an indication we’ve been to McDonalds more times than I should like to admit but the less said about that the better!

The new Little Tikes 3 in 1 Sports Zone is also a great way that you can have fun with little ones aged 12-36 months. With three interactive elements including ten pin bowling, basketball and football, this is a great way to get children active and burning off some of that excess energy! Neve loves shooting some hoops, and responds really well to our cheers and encouragement! 🙂

Get kids growing!

Introducing children to nature is a sure fire way to spark their interest in and connection with the outdoors. Planting sunflower seeds and having a ‘whose grows tallest’ competition is a simple way to get things growing! When the seasons allow, growing your own vegetables is also a great way to get children involved, and enjoy the fruits (literally) of their own labour.

We did this with Erin last year, and this year we are hoping to add some more raised beds to our garden this Summer so we can take advantage of the space and grow some of our own fruit and vegetables. At it’s most basic level, Erin absolutely loved growing our own grass from seed on the roof of the Go Green Playhouse.

Get creative with the outdoors.

Messy play becomes a lot more fun when it doesn’t matter how messy you get. The sandpit and water table are great places to start making memories, and why not take the paints, paper and brushes outdoors and help your kids with their messy masterpieces.

Neve is a huge fan of the Fun Zone Fountain Factory Water Table, with interchangeable pipes that are ideal for inquisitive mind. This is a fun introduction to STEM subjects, helping children to learn about cause and effect of moving the pipes around, whilst having a good old splash in the process!

Go on a nature treasure trail.

Grab some bags and go out on a nature walk, or take their scooter, trike or bike, making sure you gather interesting pebbles and leaves along the way. When you get home you can make creative collages that you can keep as souvenirs.

Erin loves getting out in her 4-in-1 Sports Trike and in the Autumn we have been known to collect a basket full of crisp leaves to create autumnal crafts.

Get them den building!

You’re never too old or too young for den building. Aside from building imagination, dexterity and divergent play skills, there is nothing more exciting than having a secret den to play in. This is a great activity to play in your local park or woods, using the fallen branches and twigs to create a fairy house, wizards’ lair or other secret hide out! 🙂

Go moon watching as a family.

Playing outside doesnt have to stop when the sun goes down! From counting stars, to learning all the shapes of the moon. Getting outside at night can help relax children before bed and help with a restful sleep.

In the Summer we always try and have half an hour outside in the garden before the girls go up to bed. Erin absolutely loves looking up at the sky and making shapes out of the clouds, or watching as the stars start to appear.

Play bug detectives!

Get muddy looking under rocks and digging in the soil to see how many bugs and worms you can spot. This activity brings nature to life and helps kids feel a sense of excitement in the outside world.

If your garden doesn’t attract much in the way of creepy crawlies, head off to your local woodland or nature reserve, and create a ‘bug bingo’ style tick sheet for them to tick off along the way! 🙂

We think these tips are great, and thanks to Little Tikes, we have been enjoying playing both indoor and out. Why not try and get out with your littles ones a little more this Spring and see the world through your child’s eyes for a change. You never know, you might enjoy it just as much as them! 🙂

Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse REVIEW

Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse REVIEW

#AD – gifted for review

My daughter is on the move! I repeat, SHE IS ON THE MOVE!!! Over the last few weeks and months we have gone from crawling to standing and cruising to now standing a little on her own, and as of last week, she has started to take those adorable first few unaided steps.

As a result of her new found freedom, Neve is now into everything, and spends most of her time navigating around the lounge trying to find something to play with.

We recently introduced Neve to the Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse, and it has been a huge hit with both Neve and her elder sister. It is now also known fondly in our household as “baby jail” as it contains and occupies her in one place contently playing for long enough for me and Mike to watch Neighbours undisturbed. Life goals! 🙂

Little Tikes Light 'n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

About the Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

The Little Tikes Treehouse is designed to get your baby moving – and it does just that (if you can get her older sibling out of it that is!)

This premiere playset has over 80 activities and features that will grow with your child from 6 months to 3 years.

Babies will love the treehouse’s Magic Lantern, which includes three modes of play: Explore Colours, Dance Party and Collect Fireflies.  Baby will love watching the twinkling lights, grooving to the fun music, and collecting fireflies across the floor.

Other activities include a ramp style slide, monkey press release zip line, shapesorter, mailbox, archways to crawl through, a clicking clock, a door bell, a working door, ball feeder and zig zag drop and much much more!

The Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse retails at £89.99.

Little Tikes Light 'n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

Our Experience of the Little Tikes Treehouse

As you will know if you have read our previous Little Tikes reviews, I always avoid the construction element of these toys where ever possible as I am the least coordinated person you will ever meet. I am lucky that either my other half or Dad usually volunteer to take on the task. I did actually attempt this one myself, but gave up halfway through as attempting it with the child in tow was never going to end well. That said, the instructions are pretty easy to follow for those who have some form of spacial awareness (not me!) and all the parts are clearly labelled. You do need a small screwdriver to fix the pieces in to place, but all the screws are included in a little bag. Left to his undisturbed devices, it took the other half around 15 minutes to put together.

My first impressions of the Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse were very positive. It can be used in two ways, either compactly as a square shape or folded outwards which although takes up more space, encourages your child to move around more using perhaps one hand for stability. It is made from sturdy plastic and as such, can be used indoors or outdoors (You would need to store back inside however due to it containing batteries).

Neve has just discovered a new found love of dancing and music, and so absolutely loves the sounds and tunes from the  Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse –  in particular the “find the fireflies” song, which spreads a red disco style light all over the carpet whilst playing a catchy tune. She also loves the sound of the doorbell and the little creak as she opened and closed the door.

Little Tikes Light 'n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

The Pelican ball feeder is loads of fun, and Neve really enjoys opening up his beak, popping in a ball and watching it slide down the ramp. At first she had to be helped to do this, but over recent months she had gained in confidence and can now do this on her own. It’s great to watch her stand more and more, and she now stands with one hand for support whilst interacting with the other. Occasionally she lets go altogether, and her balance is improving by the day 🙂

Little Tikes Light 'n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

There are LOTS and lots of interactive features on the Little Tikes Treehouse including the ball spinner in the giraffe’s tummy, the shape sorted and “mailbox” style door, and a little ramp which is lots of fun for them to crawl over.

Little Tikes Light 'n Go Activity Garden Treehouse

If you have an older sibling like we do, it is great to watch the two of them play together, and observe Erin trying to teach Neve how the ramps work, or how to press the buttons on the music station.

Pros:

  • Easy to assemble
  • Lots of interactive features that grow with your child.
  • Disco / Musical Light show is really impressive.
  • Can be used in a variety of ways making every playtime session slightly different.
  • Can be used “open” or closed depending on the kind of play you want to encourage.
  • Teaches about shapes, colours, special awareness, and encourages movement and confidence in mobility.

Cons:

  • At £89.99 this is quite an investment,  the Little Tikes Light ‘n Go Activity Garden Treehouse is not a budget item. That said, it can be used over quite a long time span with your child, and as such, I believe it is good value for money. In theory the Activity Garden Treehouse can be used from 6 months, when your child is able to crawl and clamber around on all fours. As they then grow in size and confidence they can discover the other features of the Treehouse. Erin is now 4 and to be honest there have been a few times when Neve isn’t around and Erin has happily played with it on her own!
  • The songs stick in your head – a lot! 🙂 Not a negative as such, but just be prepared to break out into “Catch the Fireflies!” in the middle your office meeting.
  • This is quite a large product so if you are in a one bedroom flat with limited storage this probably isn’t the toy for you. That said, when it is in the ‘closed’ square set up, it can be easily popped in to the corner of a room and takes up no more room than a baby bouncer.
