If you have seen my previous reviews you will know that my girls are both big fans of Scruff-a-Luv products – the abandoned and unloved characters that need to be washed and nurtured to bring them to life.

This Spring saw the release of a new Scruff-a-Luv product – Scruff-a-Luv Babies! Unlike traditional Scruff-a-Luv toys, Scruff-a-Luv Babies don’t need water to make them fluffy! These smaller, collectible Scruff-a-Luv Babies also come at a lower price point of just RRP £9.99 each, making them an ideal pocket money collectible for Scruff-a-Luv fans.

We were sent a selection of the NEW Scruff-a-Luv Babies Surprise Rescue Pets to put through their paces with the girls.

Scruff-a-Luv Babies come in cute purple or yellow pet carriers and inside is one of 21 different collectible characters including Lambs, Ducklings, Bunnys, Koalas and Walruses! The Lion, Fox and Panda are super rare, making it an appealing challenge for children to try and find them all and potentially swap duplicates with friends.

Scruff-a-Luv Babies

Each Scruff-a-Luv babies toy comes in their own little carrier with a clip at the top as pictured below.

Once the outer packaging has been removed, you can see the little carrier with its from gate and get to have a little peak inside to see which character you may have.
Scruff-a-Luv Babies

The front door opens downwards, and inside you can see your little Scruff-a-Luv Babies toy nestled inside.

To remove, you need to slide the hanging clip forwards which pulls the Scruff-a-Luv Babies toy out of the case. At this point the Scruff-a-Luv Babies toys are a bit curled in on themselves and have a dummy in their mouth.

When the dummy is twisted around, it pulls away from the toy, and the character unfolds fully.

My youngest Neve, did get a little upset that you weren’t able to put the dummy back in (bless her!) as once it has been used to reveal the character, you are unable to reattach it. I think it would be better if there was the ability to reattach the dummy, as this would be quite cute and fit with the Babies theme.

Inside the base of the Carrier is a small comb which can be unclipped, and used to brush and detangle the fur, which in true Scruff-a-Luv’s nature is a bit of a mess. With a bit of persistence, the fur fluffs up quite well!

Scruff-a-Luv Babies

Each Scruff-a-Luv Babies toy comes with a mini birth certificate and has a cute heart shaped keying style clip so that children can take them with you wherever you go (or attach to book bags and school rucksacks).

The girls loved the pet carriers and played with their Scruff-a-Luv Babies putting them in and out of their homes, which are also stackable if you have a few. It’s a shame that the carrier doesn’t have a keyring or handle once the character is removed, as this would make them a little more portable. That said, the girls played with them afterwards much more than perhaps I was expecting!

Scruff-a-Luv Babies

The Scruff-a-Luv Babies are super cute, and whilst not quite as fluffy as the other Scuff-a-Luv characters we have reviewed, their smaller size was a real hit with the girls. They remind me a little of Tsum Tsums in terms of their size.

Overall a fun product with a good price point for birthday gifts or gifts for school friends. Handy for parents who feel less comfortable with the water involved with traditional Scruff-a-Luv toys.

Pros:

  • Very cute mini versions of scruff-a-luvs require no water to bring to life
  • Can be clipped onto bags and very portable
  • Kept girls well entertained and they enjoyed styling and combing the hair to make it soft and fluffy

Cons:

My youngest got a bit upset that she couldn’t put the dummy back in to her characters mouth – not realising that thus ‘dummy’ is not a dummy in the traditional sense. Once it’s removed to open up the toy, it cannot be put back in.
