NEW Yoto Player 3rd Generation

This is a collaborative post

UPDATE – Our FULL review of the Yoto 3rd Generation player is now available here.

It’s no secret that here at Real Mum Reviews, we are huge fans of the Yoto audio player for kids. One of the things I love the most about Yoto as a brand is that they always listen to their customers, taking on board their feedback and where possible, incorporating their suggestions into future releases. As admin to the UK Yoto Buy and Sell group on Facebook, some of the most regular asks are related to:

  • Storage space
  • Wireless headphones
  • Battery life

and if that has been one of your gripes about the current Yoto Player, I’ve got some good news.

Today I was lucky enough to be invited down to the Yoto Play Date in London, to learn more about exciting happenings coming from Yoto. Not only was I able to meet the famous Jake, host of Yoto Daily, but I was also able to get hands on and play with Yoto’s latest offering. It was lovely to be able to chat to the team about all things Yoto and meet the creative team that bought the product to life.

On the 15th June 2023 (yes in just a weeks time!) Yoto are releasing a brand new Yoto Player (3rd Generation). Not a completely new product, but more a significant improvement on the original. Here’s everything you need to know about the Yoto 3rd Generation player. You can click the link below to be notified when the 3rd generation Yoto is available to purchase.

How is the Yoto 3rd generation different from the current Yoto Player?

The Yoto 3rd generation has a range of updated features including:

  • Acoustically engineered sound – for crisp sound quality that is better than ever
  • Improved battery life – now lasting up to 24 hours from a single charge (almost triple that of the original!)
  • USB-C fast charging and wireless charging capabilities
  • Bluetooth enabled so can be used with Bluetooth headphones
  • Improved storage capacity of 32GB (equivalent to 600+ hours of audio playtime)
  • A durable recessed screen for more durable use when laid face down
  • A room thermometer that can show the temperature in your child’s room and with a new Yoto app update (coming soon) will notify you if the room gets too hot or too cold.
  • Improved wifi – (enchanced 2.4Ghz)
  • Built in timer and sleep alarms
  • Improved vivid pixel display (more defined)
  • More diffused nightlight (still in a choice of seven colours)
  • Overall improved build quality (more robust)

How much will the new Yoto Player (3rd generation) cost?

The good news is that despite all these additional features, the new 3rd generation Yoto Player hasn’t had a huge increase in price. The Yoto Player (3rd Generation) will retail at £99.99 – just £10 extra on the RRP from the original.

Is it compatible with the same cards and accessories?

The 3rd generation Yoto Player is compatible with all the Yoto cards and content that you know and love, including the Yoto app and the free Yoto podcasts, radio and Yoto Make Your Own cards. The original Yoto Player Adventure Jacket however will not be compatible with the 3rd generation Yoto Player as the buttons are in a slightly different place. A new range of Yoto Adventure Jackets are coming soon.

Is there a 2nd generation Yoto Mini Player?

At the time of writing, only the larger sized Yoto Player is changing. The Yoto MIni Player is not having an update.

What are your favourite features of the new Yoto Player 3rd Generation?

It was great fun to get up close and personal with the new Yoto Player (3rd Generation) today. Visually there are a few things I love about the new release. Firstly the screen is recessed slightly. Where as our current Yoto Player has a perfectly flat screen, this one has a slight indentation (a bit like the effect you get when you put a case on your phone), but built into the main shell of the player. This looks really sleek and if your child is a bit heavy handed like mine, it means you can be a little more relaxed about how they flip it over, as the main unit is far more robust.

The addition of a USB-C slot is great but it can also be charged using wireless charging base (sold separately). The new Yoto player isn’t compatible with the original charging base. There isn’t a socket on the usb-c cable in the box, so this is something to bear in mind. I can’t see the 3rd generation wireless charging base on the Yoto site yet – so unsure how much this will be as an optional extra.

The bluetooth connectivity has been in Beta for a while now, but its great to see that this is now an automatic option without having to set it up inside the Yoto App. This means if your child is using bluetooth wireless headphones such as Pogs or Belkin, that these will automatically connect, providing your child with much more freedom as they dance along to their favourite Yoto Cards.

There is SO much more to learn about the 3rd generation Yoto and I will be putting it through its paces with my daughter over the coming days. My Yoto Player 3rd Generation Review will be coming very soon, so watch this space.

If you have any questions in the meantime please ask!
