Everyone loves a Unicorn Party. Is there any young girl in the universe who hasn’t fell in love with the magic of unicorns? Unicorns, Mermaids and Flamingos seem to be everywhere at the moment, and for Erin, the trend has not gone unnoticed. When we asked Erin what theme she wanted for her birthday this year I wrongly assumed it would be another Disney princess, and mentally preparing myself for the prospect of another Belle cake (last year’s was a bit of a disaster!). I was pleasantly surprised when she asked for a Unicorn theme instead, and decided to get right into the creative spirit.

If your little one’s asked for a Unicorn Party this year, here is an inspirational list of ideas for creating your own magical unicorn party theme at home – I have even created FREE Unicorn Party Printables which will help you bring it to life with limited budget! 🙂

The Decorations:

We got the majority of our unicorn tablewear and decorations from Party Pieces, who have a HUGE range of Unicorn themed items – we loved their Unicorn Sparkle Range (they have a few unicorn options to choose from), which featured the pastel unicorn shades and a gold iridescent unicorn across their tablecloths, plates and napkins.

Confetti balloons are ideal for Unicorn themed parties (with floating confetti inside the balloon itself). Whilst you can get your own to inflate at home, for a larger centerpiece balloon this gorgeous personalised bubble balloon from Findmeagift is perfect. It has a 1.5m unicorn ribbon attached to a giant helium filled confetti balloon, and is personalised with your child’s name (or message of your choice) in iridescent writing. Erin loved shaking around the confetti inside and the way it floated up out of the box as soon as we opened the lid! 🙂

Other balloon favourites include this giant unicorn balloon (requires helium) which will have little ones squealing with delight.

The Food Boxes

For something a little different for your Unicorn Party, I created these Unicorn Party Food boxes, filled with food for each child (including an obligatory “unicorn horn” flump of course. Simply buy some plain white party food boxes (These ones are cheap as chips at £1.49 for a pack of 4), and then use my FREE Unicorn Party Printables, to cut out and stick on your Unicorns Ears, Horn and Eyes. These are so so simple to create but the finished affect looks really striking! The Unicorn Party Printables are super easy to use but make lunchtime far more fun!

The Sweet Treats

For some fun unicorn themed party food, we made our own marshmallow lollypops, dipped in melted chocolate and sprinkles and wrapped in little cello bags. These looked great and were incredibly simple to make.

Sainsburys and Asda both do their own Unicorn cakes, both of which are very cute and feed between 15 and 18 people, so I felt no need to give myself the added stress and pressure of trying to make my own. This fun Unicorn Candle from Findmeagift tops it off perfectly, and looks adorable plonked on the top! 🙂

For some fun little differences, these giant personalised unicorn chocolate chip cookies and Chocolate Unicorn Pizzas from Prezzybox are a fun addition to your Unicorn themed table!!

Other food ideas include rainbow jelly and bright and colourful fruit salads. If your clever enough to make your own cupcakes too, these unicorn cupcake toppers are ideal to make them blend in to the theme! (I cheated and bought some from Sainsburys!)

The Games / Entertainment

Our party was outside, with children of a variety of different ages. For the little ones, this unicorn bouncer from Aldi was a massive hit, and had a few of them bouncing round the garden (I notice he ended up wearing a party hat too!)

We also opted for a Photo Booth, as the girls loved using the props and holding the photoframe to capture the memories. This is a great way of capturing a pic of all the people who came to the day, and would be even better if you could pop a disposeable camera or a camera on a tripod near the table and ask people to take their own shot – depends on the age of the children involved I guess! 🙂 The frame is from The Works, and has space to write your own message in wipeable marker at the bottom. The unicorn photo booth props from Party Pieces also came with two wipe down speechbubbles so that people could write their own message.

My favourite part of the party was the Unicorn Piñata  – which was a huge hit with the children. Unlike some piñata’s which can be bloody hard work to break open (at our last party even the adults struggled!) – this Unicorn Pull Piñata works a little differently! No bashing at all involved, children simply select a coloured ribbon from the selection hanging down – most ribbons simply snap off, where as one lucky one pulls open the base causing the contents to fall to the floor. I’m not sure how well it would work if the lucky ribbon was the first choice (although very unlikely!) but in our case, each child had at least one turn, and the anticipation was killing them! 🙂

The Party Bags

There is so much pressure on party bags lately, when in reality, most of it ends up going in the bin. We decided to opt for something a little different with Unicorn Party Cones full of colourful sweets. The cones themselves are very cheap (25 for £2.49) and we simply filled with Millions (nice and small for the pointy part of the cone!), blue mini mashmallows and jazzies, topped off with a silver ribbon.

Overall the day was a big success and Erin and her friends had an absolute ball. I hope you find the unicorn party printables useful – they work well for party bag decorations too! 🙂
