The girls love a bit of TV before school or whilst waiting for their dinner, and as someone who has seen more than her fair share of PAW Patrol, Shimmer and Shine and Peppa Pig, I always get a bit excited when a new show arrives on the scene!

Originally shown in Italy and arriving in the UK on the 2nd September, 44 Cats is a brand new kids TV show airing on Nick Jnr and was recently added to Freeview channel POP TV!

We watched 44 Cats for the first time this week – what did the girls make of it?

44 Cats is a fun and lively show with lots of singing and dancing, and comes with underlying messages of friendship, diversity and helping others. The theme tune is catchy and the opening credits bright and colourful.

It follows the story of four feline friends who are in a band called the Buffycats.

The cats get special powers from their grandmas pasta dish and task themselves as the protector of the neighbourhoods animals, standing up against the neighbourhood’s resident Bully – Boss

The main characters and their super power talents include:

  • Milady – who’s fur turns pink to purple whenever anyone tells a lie
  • Lampo – a tabby cat with blue lightning strike over his eye and whiskers that act like a compass, guiding him where he needs to go.
  • Pilou – who uses her enchanting wide eyes to distract villain
  • Meatball – a rather portly cat who has a BIG appetite and can sense danger when his tummy rumbles!

Meatball reminds me a little bit of the 80’s Garfield and does have some behaviours that I wouldn’t recommend the kids replicate, however the other cats are all very positive role models. Their hearts in the right place, and they work together to get the job done – promoting that its good to share people’s different abilities and work together as a team.

The show is probably aimed at a slightly older audience than my girls (6 and 3) and some of the villains and their behaviour is a little ‘harder’ than in other Nick Jnr shows we have seen, but overall we felt 44 Cats was a fun and pleasant change from the norm.

The girls loved Pilou in particular with her little pink hair bow and I now have a feeling their requests for a cat may become a little more regular!

You can catch 44 Cats daily at 8am and 4.45pm and check out an episode in the video link below!
