Erin is a massive fan of Shimmer and Shine – the genie’s in training and their magical adventures on Nick Jr.

These super fun genies Shimmer and Shine grant three wishes a day for their human Leah, but often make mistakes! Each episode is written to teach children that it is ok to make mistakes, but it’s how you learn from them what you do to put them right that counts!

When we learned the Fisher-Price had released a new toy – The Shimmer and Shine Magic Flying Carpet – I knew that Erin would love it, so it didn’t take me long to accept when we were offered the chance to review.

Our Magic Flying Carpet Review

The NEW Fisher-Price Shimmer and Shine Magic Flying Carpet features two adorable dolls – Shimmer and Shine and their very own, musical moving carpet.

Children can lift Shimmer & Shine high and low pretending to soar into magical flying adventures.

By tilting the carpet up and down and pressing a diamond button on its rear, children can hear over 40 phrases and magical sounds from the show, including the classic theme tune and catchphrases.

Both genies Shimmer and Shine are wearing sparkly genie outfits and accessories (which are removable) and have long soft hair – perfect for brushing.

The Fisher-Price Shimmer & Shine Magic Flying Carpet is Suitable from 3 years plus and is available at Smyths Toys for £41.99.

Shimmer and Shine Magic Carpet Review

Erin was VERY excited when the Shimmer and Shine Magic Flying Carpet arrived and couldn’t wait to get it out of the box. She was chuffed to bits to see that there were not one, but two dolls inside (Shimmer and Shine), both of whom had long styleable hair and accessories (bangles and shoes) which could be removed and swapped around as she wished.

The Carpet itself was very easy to set up – simply add three AAA batteries into the base and it’s ready to go!

Shimmer and Shine can be clipped onto the magic carpet either sitting up or lying down, and their arms and legs moved accordingly.

Press the diamond button and the carpet springs to life, moving in a wave like motion and playing sounds and music from the Shimmer & Shine series including the theme tune, and the genie’s key phrases.

Erin enjoyed racing around the living room lifting the carpet up and down before placing it down on the floor and watching it wriggle and move across the floor. Sometimes it moves backwards rather than forwards, and seemed to have a mind of it’s own, but this didn’t seem to bother Erin at all – if anything she found it hilarious!

Erin loved the blanket but was equally content sat styling the genies’ hair and dressing them. She did lose one of Shimmer’s shoes at one point and we had a few tears, but luckily we found it again after a bit of hunting (they are very small!)

Pros:

  • Features two of the main Shimmer & Shine characters that your children will know and love.
  • The hair is very soft and long and perfect for plaiting and combing.
  • Easy to clip the characters on and off the magic carpet as required – Erin was able to do this without assistance.
  • Familiar music and sounds from the series.
  • Carpet moves and wriggles like it really is alive!

Cons:

  • I do think the retail price of £41.99 is quite steep for this product, and as such I would have preferred it if it either came with a few more accessories (like a genie bottle or brush/comb). That said  when you consider what you would pay for one doll and double it, the retail price does make sense.
  • The carpet didn’t always move as I would have expected on our carpeted surfaces.

Overall Erin really loves the product and i am confident this would be a hit with any fans of the series!

The Shimmer & Shine Magic Flying Carpet is available to purchase at Smyths Toys and retails at £41.99.
