Having been a huge fan of Hatchimals from the beginning, Erin was super egg’cited (eggs’cuse the pun!!) when Spinmaster launched their collectible spin off – Hatchimals CollEGGtibles last April. With prices at just pocket money prices, these fun and interactive eggs were a much cheaper alternative for parents whose children wanted to experience the excitement of a surprise inside a hatching egg.
This month has seen the launch of Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 2 – and Erin could not have been more excited to check out what new characters lay inside!

Hatchimals CollEGGtibles are small, cute, loveable creatures that live inside the magical world of Hatchtopia – a world full of exciting hangouts.
Each character from the Hatchimal CollEGGtibles range come in their very own egg, which similarly to the original Hatchimal toy, needs a child’s love and affection to hatch. The challenge of CollEGGtibles is trying to collect them all, ticking them off from the Collector’s chart and trading any duplicates friends. There are now over 100 characters to collect!!
Hatchimals CollEGGtibles come in their very own individual blind bags or are available to buy in multipacks. You can get one egg for £2.99, a 2 pack with a nest for £4.99 or a pack of 4 with bonus character for £9.99. Season 2 has also seen the arrival of a Easter style Hatchimals Basket and Secret Scene playset.
When children open up their blind bag, they will reveal their CollEGGtible egg inside – each egg has different coloured speckles depending on which family of CollEGGtibles it belongs to. In Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 2, each family has up to 8 different characters to collect and you can see what they all look like on the Collector’s List.
With some real differences from season 1, the characters in Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Series 2 include some with glittery wings, some that sparkle, and some that are fuzzy and soft! There is also colour change technology – something which I’m sure will be a huge hit! As with Season 1, the majority of Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 2 are common, some are rare, and if you are really lucky, some are ultra rare or limited edition.
Even more exciting is the introduction of a super elusive Golden Hatchimal – the rarest Hatchimal of all with only 55 nationwide available to find. Hailing from Moonlight Mountain this Golden Hatchimal includes glittery wings and a golden metallic body and if you are lucky enough to find one, you will also win a special set of 6 golden Hatchimals CollEGGtibles in a glittery egg carton AND a Hatchimals CollEggtibles Season 2 goodybag!!!!
The Hatching Process
To hatch your Hatchimals CollEGGtibles you simply rub gently with your thumb on the purple heart. Erin found this a little tricky with season one as she couldnt quite press hard enough with her tiny hands, but found it a little easier now she is a little older! After a bit of rubbing, stroking and patting, the heart will change to pink, at which point, it is ready to hatch. Unlike the original Hatchimal, the process is not electronic and can be done by hand.
Once pink, you simply press your thumb down on the egg just above the heart to pop it open and reveal the character inside. You can check out your Collector’s List, discover it’s rarity, and tick it off!
Once it has hatched, you can peel down the top part of the shell to create a little nest for your CollEGGtible to sit or use the pink plastic nests that come with some of the larger packs.
Here our video of Erin opening some of the Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 2 collection – No gold ones I’m afraid, but some super cute characters that she was very excited about – particularly the soft and fuzzy ones!
Erin loves the NEW Hatchimals CollEGGtibles app, allowing her to learn more about her new friends – the app really brings the characters to life, and Erin loved washing, feeding and playing with her purple and green zebra!
The Verdict
Unsurprisingly for someone who is already an avid Hatchifan, Erin absolutely LOVED Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Season 2, and the addition of some different textures as well as the glittery wings made them a bit different from the ones she already has.
As a parent, I love the fact that these are really reasonably priced, and the hatching process extends the play time with prolonged anticipation associated with a new toy! A big hit all round!
