On Friday our long awaited scan date finally arrived!!

After the miscarriage in November, we were extremely nervous about this scan, and even though I was getting lots of horrible pregnancy symptoms, I was still anxious that something would have gone wrong and that we wouldn’t see a heartbeat. 🙁

I shouldn’t have worried as when we got to the sonographer she found our baby quickly and easily and we quickly saw the baby on screen, with its heartbeat pulsing away. Having not told my doctor I was pregnant until 10 weeks, I was measuring 13.5 weeks on the scan – just within the timescales for the Nuchal screening. Unfortunately our baby was NOT playing ball and did NOT want to face the camera. He/she had our back turned so that their spine was facing outwards, and as such, the sonographer couldn’t clearly see the nape of the neck to do the screening. After lots of coughing, salsa movements and some enforced wriggling, we tried again, but despite some movement, the view still wasn’t clear. Unfortunately after 20 minutes, we had to give up, with the next solution being the Quad blood tests at 14+ weeks.

After much deliberation we have decided to go for a private scan at our local MUMS clinic. I am the kind of person that likes to have as much information as possible, and whilst I don’t know for certain what we would do with a positive result, I would still like to find out.

Will let you know how we get on!! 🙂 x
